A Daddy And His Daughter- A Girl And Her Daddy
As a daughter, and now a mother, I have seen the powerful influence of the daddy daughter relationship. We are working through the potty training phase. Anyone with a child has already or will go through it. “What wonderful phase!” (said no one ever!). Let me share how this beautiful daddy daughter relationship helped the process.
*Disclaimer this is not a post about how to potty train your toddler.
The Daddy Toilet
Anyone that knows us knows that we love the outdoors. We love to hiking, camping, and backpacking. We have also said that we were not going to let our kids hold us back from doing the things we love. During the first week of potty training our girl we decided we wanted to go on a hike. We were so nervous! We debated putting a diaper back on her because we did not want an accident in the child carrier. That would have been a nasty mess! The potty training experts say once you have tossed the diaper don’t go back so thats what we decided to do. We took our chances and kept the panties on.
Right once we got unloaded and to the trail head our little one said, “I need to go potty.” Adam and I looked at each other with that look of oh shoot how are we going to do this. And this is when the daddy toilet came to be. Adam took our little girl explained to her what needed to happen (basically that there are no toilets so you have to go in a bush). He took her off the the side of the trail, held her up with his hands behind his knees and we waited. And she did it! Talk about an exciting moment for us all. She went in the “daddy toilet” 4 more times that trip! I know the daddy toilet may not be very exciting to you but to our toddler its a special moment between her and her daddy.
Special Daddy Dates
Our girl has been lucky to have a daddy that takes her on dates frequently. While trying to teach her how to go poop on the toilet we were trying incentive after incentive. Ice cream, Chocolate, and other goodies. None of them worked until we came up with “special daddy dates”. Finally we came up with something that really excited her. It was so fun to watch her get so excited when she went poo and shout “I get a special daddy date!” They are simple dates like going to the store but they are so special to her. I love watching the bond grow between the two and the stories my daughter tells me of things they have done.
My Daddy
I am very grateful for my own dad and the special memories I have with him. I will always treasure the moments I have and continue to have with him. He taught me many life lessons growing up and continues to do so now. Many of the things I treasure and have learned from him I am now passing down to my girls. My Daddy would always tell me, “I love you to the sky and back, an infinity of times.” I have started saying it to my girls and as I think about how much I love them it also reminds me of my dad and how much he loved me. I am so grateful for him and the bond that we have. He is now an amazing grandpa to my girls and I love the memories they are creating.
I am so grateful for my wonderful husband and the great daddy he is. I know there is something special between girls and their daddies. It may be something small like a daddy toilet, but it is something special that they share.
